How To Clean Your Solar Water Fountain

Like with most things in life, your solar water fountain will need sustained cleaning and maintenance to keep it looking and (more importantly) working its best.

We want to ensure your Teamson water fountain has a long life, which is why we’ve put together this simple, straight-forward guide to cleaning your solar water fountain.

Keep reading to find out all the tips, tricks and treatments you need to know to keep your fountain ticking over!

*DISCLAIMER* Please keep in mind that if you buy a fountain made out of a material you aren’t sure or used to caring for, refer to the item instructions.

How Often Should I Clean My Water Fountain?

One of the main reasons that your fountain will stop, is because it needs to be cleaned.

We recommend cleaning it every 1-3 months. Generally, 4 times a year is a good bench-march to ensure you’re spotting any issues with your garden water fountain before they develop into something more serious.

The size of your fountain should also determine how frequently you clean.

Remember, whether you’ve got a large waterfall fountain or a smaller tabletop indoor water fountain, they all need regular cleaning to keep them in good working order.

How Should I Clean My Water Fountain Pump?

All water fountain pumps need to be cleaned, whether they’re solar or electric. Simply by being outside, they’re likely to have sand, silt, sediment, and other types of debris floating around in there.

This can harm your fountain and stop it from working properly – we want to help you avoid this!

To clean it, we recommend removing the pump filter, the gland, and the rotor. (See the diagram below).

Clean these parts by using fresh warm water.

If you choose to, you can go one step further and use a pump cleaning brush to ensure you’re getting in all the hard-to-reach areas.

Do I Need to Clean The Solar Panel?

The short answer is yes. Solar panels almost never fail – but it doesn’t mean they don’t benefit from some regular maintenance.

We recommend that the panel should be cleaned periodically with a soft tissue.

Regular cleaning of the panel is advised to maintain optimum conversion of the sun’s energy into direct current.

Solar Power: Other Things to Consider

It is worth ensuring you place your solar fountain in the sunniest part of your garden in direct sunlight.

However, if your fountain is not operating even in full sunlight, check the connection to the solar unit. There could be a fault or a loose connection.

It’s also important to bear in mind that during the winter months, the UV rays will be much weaker and are more likely to affect the performance of your solar water fountain.

Resulting in shorter or a more intermittent performance.

What Should I Do With My Fountain During Winter?

During the winter months, we advise that you consider bringing your water fountain inside.

Once clean and dry, it’s recommended that you store your solar water fountain and solar water fountain pump undercover, preferably in a garage, shed or any dry location.

It’s important to remember that even in an outbuilding, the temperature can drop below freezing so it is also worth wrapping the water feature in a sheet or even bubble wrap to add further protection.

Storing your feature inside during cold, adverse weather not only protects the functionality of the fountain, but it will also protect the exterior from extreme wear and tear.

Please note, that even during the spring & summer months a level of wear and tear is to be expected with items that are exposed to outdoor elements for extended periods.

So that’s it.
